A dated change in the delivery options
Runway’s 10 August 2026 changelog entry lists ProRes 4444 with PCM audio and PNG-sequence export for Gen-4.5 and Aleph 2 in Tool Mode and Edit Studio, under Pro+ plans. This records what the provider announced on that date; it is not a fresh test of files exported from every model or account.
The editorial value of an export option is not that its name makes a shot professional. It is that a finishing team can ask for a more explicit handoff than a preview file. The production still needs to agree what the output represents, how it should be interpreted and which version has actually been approved.
Editorial method: create a media receipt
Attach a small receipt to the delivered shot. Record the shot identifier, generation or edit version, selected range, intended frame rate, supplied audio, file naming and destination. Include the reference used to judge the result. A second editor should be able to connect the new media to the decision that produced it without relying on a file called final-final.
Ask the receiving team which attributes they need checked. Do not assume that a format label establishes meaningful transparency, correct colour interpretation or a clean audio handoff for this particular file. Test those requirements directly. A shot that opens successfully has passed an import check, not every technical or creative check required for delivery.
Keep the previous approved media until the replacement has been confirmed in the receiving project. Compare the same in and out points rather than two differently trimmed versions. If the new file changes duration, explicitly decide whether to adjust the edit, request another range or retain the previous version. This avoids accidentally treating a technical replacement as a creative revision.
The final check still happens in the sequence
Look for temporal problems at normal playback speed, then inspect suspect frames. Pay particular attention to the first and last usable frames: a replacement can be beautiful in the middle and still produce an awkward join. Listen to the delivered audio in context rather than assuming that an attached track belongs in the mix.
A useful acceptance record separates import success, technical inspection and editorial approval. Each can pass or fail independently. The new export routes may provide a different starting point for that process, but no container or image sequence can decide whether the shot tells the right part of the story.
