A dated incident, not a permanent verdict

Luma’s public incident page records increased Ray2 queue times beginning at noon UTC on 16 September 2026, affecting its API and Dream Machine. The incident index marks the event resolved at 01:00 UTC on 17 September. The detail page retrieved for this note still shows the initial degraded-state report; the resolution comes from the index. These are dated provider records, not a live guarantee of availability or an independently measured outage duration.

The useful production question is what a team promises while a request is waiting. A queued job is not an accepted shot. A completed job is not necessarily an approved one. Those distinctions matter when an edit, sound session or client screening depends on material that has not yet arrived.

Editorial method: budget for a decision, not a button

Build the schedule backwards from the moment someone must decide. If a scene review needs three usable alternatives, leave room to inspect those alternatives before the meeting. Do not spend the entire available window obtaining files and assume review will happen instantly. This is a proposed scheduling discipline, not a calculation of Luma’s normal turnaround.

Keep a simple status column for requested, received, reviewed and approved material. Beside it, record who owns the next action and which edit version depends on the shot. A producer can then distinguish a service delay from an unresolved creative note. The remedies differ: another request does not solve unclear direction, and a clearer prompt does not create capacity during a provider incident.

Choose the fallback before the screening

Agree on a reversible fallback: an existing approved take, a storyboard panel or a clearly marked animatic. Identify which version the editor should use if the new shot misses its decision time. That keeps the sequence discussable without presenting unfinished footage as final. Preserve the original request identifier and any downloaded outputs so that later comparisons remain traceable.

Avoid automatically switching models just to fill the gap. A replacement may alter performance, lighting or geography, creating a continuity problem larger than the original delay. Treat that switch as a creative change with an explicit review owner. For the next job, the useful lesson is not that one service can never be trusted; it is that production needs a plan for material that arrives late, arrives imperfectly, or does not arrive at all.
