Wrapbook draws its own line between AI and automation

Wrapbook, a production-payroll platform, markets itself as an “AI-powered system” for payroll, spend and accounting on its own homepage, and documents specific AI-labeled features on a dedicated AI at Wrapbook page alongside broader automation claims on its payroll platform page for timecards and union compliance.

What the documents show

The AI page states two concrete capabilities: a report filter that lets a user “type in what you're looking for in plain English” while “AI applies the right filters automatically,” and an invoice-import feature in which “AI can read invoice PDFs and populate the data automatically” before a person “double-checks the information” and saves. Both are described as review-then-confirm tools, not autonomous ones. The payroll platform page documents automation that is not labeled “AI”: it states “powerful automation tackles hours-to-gross calculations in real time” and that union payroll runs on “automated HTG and compliance for SAG-AFTRA, DGA, IATSE, and more,” with pension, health and welfare payments calculated and disbursed “automatically.” Timecards are described as digitally collected with “custom approval flows” that “automatically direct timecards to the right people,” after which “payroll recalculates automatically” if a correction is made. The page separately names an “AI Production Incentives Tool,” described only as an “AI-powered expert” answering incentive questions, with no detail on the underlying model or data handling comparable to a competing vendor's own disclosure elsewhere in this pack.

The workflow

For a production office, the documented effect spans two stages: at data entry, AI reads and pre-fills structured fields from invoices and answers plain-language questions about reports and incentives, saving a bookkeeper's typing; at payroll calculation, separately labeled automation applies pre-built wage, overtime and union rules to submitted timecards. A production still submits timecards, approves flagged exceptions, and reviews AI-imported invoice data before it posts, per the page's own “double-check” instruction.

What the tool does not change

Wrapbook's own pages keep a visible line between what they call “AI” and what they call “automation,” and this site should preserve that line rather than treating every efficiency claim as an AI claim; the union compliance calculations, for instance, are documented as rules-based, not AI-driven. A paymaster's judgment on an edge case, and the underlying union agreement rates the software encodes, are not described as machine-generated.

• Does a payroll platform's “AI” label attach to the specific feature in question, or is it a company-wide marketing frame applied loosely across the product?
• Is a compliance calculation described as automated rule application, or as an AI judgment, and does the vendor's own text support that distinction?
• What review step does the vendor's documentation itself specify before an AI-populated field is trusted for payroll or invoicing?

Wrapbook's own site is a useful case for separating a company's general “AI-powered” pitch from the specific, narrower claims made feature by feature; the union-compliance engine that actually calculates a crew member's pay is documented as automation built on codified rules, not the generative AI the homepage banner implies.
